In September 2002, Bertrand de Billy took over the position as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (VRSO) in Vienna. Born and educated in Paris, he first played in and then conducted various orchestras in his hometown before working as a first conductor at the Anhaltische Theater in Dessau. From 1996 to 1998 he hold the same position at the Vienna Volksoper and 1999 he became General Music Director at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (until 2004). Bertrand de Billy frequently works with major orchestras and opera-houses around the world such as the State-Operas of Vienna, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Opera National de Paris and also in Washington and Los Angeles. He has engagements at the New York Metropolitan Opera as well as at the Salzburg Festival and also has a close collaboration with the Musikverein in Vienna, the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Theater an der Wien.
